Automotive Fuels and Lubricant Application Division (AFLAD) is one of various research divisions of the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), which forms the nucleus of research in petroleum, petrochemical and product application areas in India. AFLAD has recognized competence in the field of Engine and Vehicle testing of Fuels and Lubricants. Its service to industry, apart from testing I.C. Engine Fuels and Lubricants to National and International standard, also includes studying specific Fuel and Lubricantrelated problems referred by engine manufacturers, study of engines for design modifications for improving fuel economy and reducing tail-pipe emission and taking up any fuel and lubricant related studies sponsored by engine manufacturers, potential manufacturers of alternate fuels etc.The staff members also serve on various national technical and committees and impart training to engineers in the area of utilization of fuels and lubricants in I.C. Engines. Various activities of the laboratory are also related to sponsored problems from oil, engine/vehicle manufacture, and other related industry and organizations.
