TECHNOLOGY: Sodium Sulfonate
APPLICATIONS:
- Based on IIP’s technology, a commercial plant of 500 TPA and 100 TPA was initiated successfully. IIP scientists provided major technical backup for successful installation and commissioning. This plant is operating at 75 % capacity since June 1999. The quality of sulfonate is at par with international specifications and has been very well accepted by the consumers. With the availability of indigenous product, sulfonate is gaining market in other applications e.g. metal cutting soluble oil and additives for long life lubricants. Besides domestic market the product is gaining popularity among other countries.
TECHNOLOGY STATUS: - Based on IIP’s technology a commercial plant of 500 TPA and 100 TPA capacity is in operation.
- The application of this indigenous technology at above plant has resulted in foreign exchange saving of about Rupees fifty million per annum.
- Since the technology is proven, it can be licensed to other parties even abroad.
- It is based on waste utilization of HAB. It will help the Petrochemical industries.
SALIENT FEATURES:
- Use of less hazardous Sulfuric Acid in place of fuming sulfuric acid for sulfonation reaction. The spent sulfuric acid again utilized by readjusting its concentration to minimize disposal problems.
- All the components of the reaction material are reused after regeneration, e.g. Sulfuric acid, Chlorides, Lime, Solvent for overbasing, etc.
- The sulfonate is free from inorganic impurities up to required level.
- The raw material (HAB) is an indigenous byproduct and it is byproduct utilization for value addition besides manufacturing tailored products.
- The byproduct is of high quality and can be used as scrubbing powder.
- The Calcium Sulfonate is of high base number and of additive quality.
- There is no environmental problem.
