As per the charter the key business activities of the Institute are to develop technologies, products and processes in the areas of Petroleum refining, natural gas, petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, IC engines and Combustion. Providing technical support and training to the personnel of petroleum industry are the other important activities.

Institute’s main focus is on developing strong relations with customers in India and abroad.
