- The area is actively involved in determining the trace metal contents in the crude oil as well as in the finished petroleum products
- The morphological characterization is also provided for all the materials, catalysts and microorganisms in various projects of the institute
- The area is leading several projects sponsored by CSIR, DST, MoEFCC, ANRF, and private organizations
