Outcome

  • A novel bioprocess for 1G, 2G & hybrid bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass, and various waste sugar streams.
  • Effective, lignocellulosic biomass deconstruction process (validated at pilot scale level) to recover hemicellulose in the form of pentose sugar rich stream with complete mass and material balance. ~85% fermentable carbon recovery in form of xylose sugar.
  • Developed novel and in house cellulase enzyme system for biomass saccharification
  • Yeast mediated fermentation for production of xylitol, ethanol, and single cell oil in pilot scale fermenter
  • Yeast lipid production from renewable carbonaceous feedstock and lipid conversion into 4th gen drop in fuels and oleochemicals
  • In silico analysis of microbial systems.
  • Life cycle impact as well as energy, exergy, and techno-economic evaluation of fuels and chemicals from renewable feedstock.

  • 6 PhD under pursuance
  • 50+ undergraduate/graduate/post-doctoral students trained
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals (total impact factor 80+ in last 1-year up to June 2020)
  • Organized a one-day National seminar on “Biofuel Production in India: Potential, Prospects and Technology” held at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) on 21st February 2020, with joint collaboration with NISSTA, Lucknow
