Automotive Fuels and Lubricants Application Division

Automotive Fuels and Lubricants Application Division (AFLAD) is one of the specialized divisions of the laboratory. AFLAD has proven competence in the field of engine and vehicle testing of fuels and lubricants. This division is well equipped with state-of-the-art test facilities to conduct basic and applied research in the field of application of various fuels and lubricants in I.C. Engine. Apart from these research activities a dedicated mass emissions test facility, complying Euro IV emissions standards, is fully operational as per Indian and International standards. This division is expected to act as a think tank to come out with data and results to ensure that policy decisions at the national level are taken in unbiased way.

The scientists and engineers of the division are the members of the various national committees and contributing significantly for formulating regulatory frame work. The division also impart training to engineers in the area of utilization of fuels and lubricants in I.C. Engines. Some of the major Research and development activities of the division are:

  • Engine combustion and emissions
  • Performance evaluation of fuels and lubricants
  • Alternative fuels for internal combustion
  • Engine Development for meeting forthcoming emission norms
  • Development of cost effective exhaust after treatment devices
  • Engine simulation and modeling
  • Development of test procedures
  • Fleet Studies
  • Research in EV technologies
